WELCOME TO POTAWATOMI WILDLIFE PARK

Welcome to Potawatomi Wildlife Park – Where Nature, History, and Community Meet

Nestled in the heart of northern Indiana, Potawatomi Wildlife Park is a one-of-a-kind destination where over 300 acres of prairie, woodlands, and wetlands invite you to explore, unwind, and reconnect—with nature, with local history, and with each other. Whether you're hiking our five miles of scenic trails, attending one of our free community events, or simply watching wildlife in its natural habitat, there's always something new to discover.

This park began as a dream of Vernon Romine, a generous local landowner who believed everyone—especially children and families facing financial hardship—should have free access to the beauty and benefits of the outdoors. When he passed away in 1979, Vernon entrusted 151 acres of land to be developed by five local service clubs. That seed of an idea has since grown into a thriving, 300-acre public park, supported by a dedicated board and generous community donors.

We’re not a county or state park—we’re a privately-run, community-powered treasure open to the public for free. Everything we do, from hosting school field trips to maintaining trails and offering educational programming, is made possible by donations. It costs about $130,000 a year to keep this space thriving, and every dollar helps.

So whether you're here to hike, learn, play, or simply breathe deep and be still—you’re welcome here. Potawatomi Wildlife Park is your park. Come see what makes it so special.
